Globe Broadband Experience

I recently availed of a 512Mb wireless broadband + landline from Globe. The application process was quick. It exceeded my expectations, to be honest. The technician installed the broadband and landline and tested it. Everything went on without a glitch.

Monday, 26th of January, when I connected it to my computer, the landline was working well but the internet was extremely slow. I figured out it was due to my windows updates downloading and my Norton updating itself. The next day however, my mom called me on my landline and I couldn't hear her but she can hear me. It's January 28 already, the Internet is downloading normally but the landline is suffering the same fate as yesterday.

I finally called Globe 9198888, when I had waited barely 15 seconds, a CSR greeted me pleasantly. Verna said that our area doesn't seem to be affected by system maintenance and she created a ticket for me. She asked me to monitor the situation and I gave her my contact information if they need more information.

My rating of their service on a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being the greatest):

Internet: 8
Landline: 2

I'm looking forward to them fixing it really quick.

Obama, secret Muslim?

An email circulated (and is still circulating) that states Barack Obama is a "radical muslim".

This email is at best "distorted and exaggerated" according to research done on snopes.com.

There are also videos wherein his utterance of "my muslim faith" is taken out of context.

Before preaching against Barack Obama, or anyone for that matter, we need to make sure our facts are accurate. Let's be careful not to pass around hearsay.

The Bible says "prove all things, hold fast to that which is good.."

I don't know Obama personally (pun intended) but his claims are as follows:

I am a Christian
I have been sworn in by the Bible
I pledge allegiance and lead the pledge of allegiance...

For proof and video please click on this link.

For claims that Obama is a muslim, please feel free to contact me and provide substantial evidence.

Though this blog has been posted on our church's website, this is not necessarily an endorsement of President Obama nor reflective of the views of the church nor its Pastor.

Everest wasn't in existence yet during Noah's time

I was reading Genesis 7:20 which states:

Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail ; and the mountains were covered.

One might be led to think that Everest was covered by that flood. A little research shows that Everest hasn't always been the tallest mountain.

Indian mathematician and surveyor Radhanath Sikdar was probably the first person to identify that Mount Everest (then known as peak XV) was the world's highest peak as he was the first person to calculate the height of the mountain in 1852. However it was officially announced in March 1856.
(Source, http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Hyderabad/Indian_mathematician_1st_to_identify_Everest_as_highest_mountain_peak/articleshow/3091546.cms)

Mount Everest lies between Tibet and Nepal in southern Asia. It is 9 kilometers high. The waters from the worldwide Flood of Noah's time would cover a fairly level earth only to about 3 kilometers. So how could the water form Noah's Flood cover Mount Everest?

The answer is that Mount Everest was formed after or during the Flood — it wasn't in existence in its present form before the Flood. We know this because its higher parts contain fossils of sea creatures and seashells, showing that it is made of rock that was once under water.

Before the Flood, the mountains were not as high as today, and the ocean valleys were not as deep. Mount Everest and other high mountains were pushed up by the enormous underwater volcanic activity of the Flood (“the fountains of the great deep” — Genesis 7:11) and carved out by the rapid draining away of the waters into the ocean valleys.

So the water didn't have to cover Mount Everest and the other high mountains we see today, because they didn't exist before the Flood. There were hills in the pre-Flood world of course (Genesis 7:19), and it was these that the Bible speaks of when it says the mountains were covered to a depth of 15 cubits (6.75 meters) during the Flood.

Sorting Things Out

Day started when I heard a know from the door around 7AM. It was my Jen, Tess, my mother-in-law along with Myrnalyn, Marilyn's cousin. She will be staying with us from now on to keep an eye on things and help take care of the baby when it comes out :)

We prepared hot cocoa for breakfast and wheat bread with cream cheese. When
they left, we went back to sleep and woke up around 10AM.

Myrn, got her first training washing the dishes today.

Today, I'm trying to sort and clean up all my 500+ bookmarks in Firefox. I also came across a nice website called oneplace that let's me read the Bible through in a year and keep track of my progress with personalized settings.

I also listened to J. Vernon Mcgee's radio program at Thru The Bible and became a fan of his program in Facebook.

Alpha day 2009

This day marks the first day of the year. Just like everybody else, it started with a bang.

Welll, I literally sat down on a sofa next to my wife as the clock struck 12. Then we had a couple of pictures taken with my maternal family. We went home slept for a few hours and found ourselves awake around 10am.

I cooked some fried rice while Marilyn prepared itlog maalat for brunch. She cut some apples and washed the grapes. My uncle Caesar arrived just in time for me to pour the hot cocoa given to us by Pastor Bong on to his brown cup. Said a little prayer and ate breakfast while watching Goldfinger - the third James Bond film starring Sean Connery.

After the film, I dressed up and prepared for work when my mom texted that her right eye was bloodshot. I passed by the house and accompanied my mom along with my wife to a nearby clinic where she was examined. Then without missing a heartbeat, I dashed off to work. Well, of course I had to stop by Pan de Manila and buy some pan de sal and herb cream cheese.

In the quest of fulfilling my goals, I read Genesis 1 and while in the creation part of the chapter I got the inclination to search Google for "Creation PPT". I came accross a very useful site,

http://www.nwcreation.net/presentations/

which has a lot of creationist presentations. This led to another one:

http://www.expelledthemovie.com/

I also found some tunes in Imeem, particularly, No More Night rendered by two different artists.

Back from lunch.

Headed for the gym, but turns out it is closed today. Hmm. should have known that.
But at least I had the chance to get a cardio up and down the MRT stairs as I bought lunch from the other side of my usual turf.
